Artist Statement:
My work represents a collection of artifacts; slivers of my past retold using a language of ancient
motifs and folklore. I’m interested in the human tendency to memorialize our experiences in the
material world, from the patterns on a piece of china to the tchotchkes adorning our mantles.
These knick-knacks exist beyond their creator’s intent and without context, inviting us to wonder
about their meaning and origin.
motifs and folklore. I’m interested in the human tendency to memorialize our experiences in the
material world, from the patterns on a piece of china to the tchotchkes adorning our mantles.
These knick-knacks exist beyond their creator’s intent and without context, inviting us to wonder
about their meaning and origin.
Continuing in that tradition, I render work that fluctuates between painting and sculpture -
contemporary in color and design - magnified versions that evoke the folk traditions of the past.
These sculptures provide a new context for ideas that have often been relegated to peripheral
spaces. Drawing inspiration from a childhood spent near the water and a lifelong fascination with
myth and memory, I build work that feels both ancient and futuristic, inviting viewers to look closer
and see how playfulness and personal history intertwine in every layer.
